AsBack Bay developed as a planned urban district, the Fens landscape
was a model of orchestrated infrastructure efforts: evenly-distributed,
planned streets, orchestrated topography, positive surface drainage,
understandable lot layouts, street trees, a parklike boulevard, sculpture,
and a set of deed restrictions--prescribed and unified--markedly different
from previous efforts.
