Delany & Landow's Definition

George Landow is an important force in the world of hypertext scholarship. With Paul Delany, he edited Hypermedia and Literary Studies, a collection which gathers together many authors of relevance to this study. See also our discussion of Landow's overview types and hypertext rhetoric.

Landow defines hypertext as "the use of the computer to transcend the linear, bounded and fixed qualities of the traditional written text" (3).
