    Tuesday April 11th 1876

  1. Instrument arranged as in Fig 1. P plumbago - M mercury. When Willie Hubbard sang into A the notes were clearly and loudly audible from z.
    Vowel sounds could be discriminated at z, but not consonants.

  2. Instrument arranged as in Fig 2.

    A is a steel spring carrying a cork, c, + a plumbago pencil p dipping into mercury
