淨暉本姓楊。建康人也。志道專誠樂法翹懇。具戒之初從濟瑗稟學。精思研求究大乘之奧。十臘之後便為宗匠。
齊文惠帝竟陵文宣王莫不服膺。永明八年竟陵王請於第講維摩經。後為寺主。二十餘年。 長幼崇奉如事父母。從為弟子者四百餘人。年七十二。永明十年卒也。時寺又有僧要光淨。 並學行有聞也
