Narrative Chronology
1. Nanzi carries on incestuous affair with her brother, Zichao.

2. Nanzi's son, Kuaikui, hears gossip about his mother and tries to have her murdered.

3. Nanzi drives Kuaikui from the state, deposes him as heir apparent, and names Kuai Kui's own son heir apparent to Duke Ling.

Historical Chronology
I. 496 B.C. Nanzi, wife of Duke Ling of Wei, slanders crown prince Kuai Kui; Kuai Kui flees to Song.

II. 493 B.C. Yuan, marquis of Wei (Duke Ling) dies and Zhe, Kuai Kui's son succeeds as Duke Chu.

III. 480 B.C. Boji, the widowed elder sister of Kuai Kui, her son, Kong Kui, and her lover, Hun Liangfu,make plans to help Kuai Kui unseat Duke Chu, and regain the throne in Wei.

IV. 479 B.C. Kuai Kui assumes the throne of Wei as Duke Zhuang, and Zhe (Duke Chu), flees to Lu.

V. 479 B.C. Kung Qiu (Confucius) dies.

VI. 478 B.C. Duke Zhuang kills Hun Liangfu.

VII. [478 B.C. Duke Zhuang kills Nanzi.]

VIII. 478 B.C. Duke Zhuang flees disorder in Wei, Banshi becomes marquis, but Duke Zhuang returns and then Banshi flees. Duke Zhuang is murdered.

IX. 477 B.C. Gongzi Qi is made marquis.

X. 476 B.C. Qi is driven out and Duke Chu returns to throne.

XI. [476 B.C. An official of Wei kills Boji upon Duke Chu's return.]

XII. 470 B.C. Duke Chu flees to Song
