ADDITIONAL NOTE.
As my readers will have seen from the Preface, I
originally proposed to make a selection of Wang Ch`ung's
Essays, and to translate only 44, i. e. the
philosophical ones, being in my opinion the more important. Some of the leading
sinologues having pointed out to me the desirability of having a complete
version of Wang Ch`ung's work, I now have changed my
mind, and am going to translate the essays left out likewise. They will, later
on, be published as "Lun-Hêng,Part
II, Miscellaneous Essays," in contradistinction to the present volume,
which I now call "Lun-Hêng, Part I, Philosophical Essays of
Wang Ch ung." The whole work will also appear, later on, in the "Mitteilungen des Seminars für Orientalische Sprachen,"
probably in 5 parts. The first was already published last year, under the title
"Selected Essays of the Philosopher Wang Ch`ung." I am
very much indebted to Geheimrat Sachau, Director of
the Seminar für Orientalische Sprachen, for kindly having undertaken the
publishing of this voluminous work.
