Description of the Library of Congress

The Library of Congress holds over 100 million items, most in special collections of manuscripts, maps, music, sound recordings, prints and photographs, and motion pictures. Documentary and fine arts pictorial materials may be found in any part of the collections, but concentrations of visual materials are held by the Prints and Photographs and Rare Book and Special Collections Divisions. The Prints and Photographs Division estimates its collections to contain more than 13 million items.
