DMC Home | About | Collections | Projects | Resources | Services | The Museum Educational Site Licensing ProjectThe University of Virginia was a participant in the Museum Educational Site Licensing Project, a national demonstration project sponsored by the Getty Information Initiative to address key issues in the educational use of museum images and related information delivered over computer networks. The pilot project tested the distribution of art images and information from seven museums to seven universities, including the University of Virginia. The The Museum Educational Site Licensing Project formally ended in July 1997. The two volumes of the project report will soon be available on the web. Print copies of Delivering Digital Images and Images Online can be ordered from Getty Trust Publications. The University of Virginia site remains available as part of the archive of the Project's history. At the conclusion of the project, most of the museum participants in the project asked that their images be withdrawn. Other distribution channels for these and other museum collections are currently being developed. The AMICO Library, recently licensed by the University of Virginia Library, includes images from many of the former participants in MESL. More information about UVa's implementation of this project can be learned from the local site, or by contacting Judith Thomas, jet3h@virginia.edu.
