The Monastery

A very short time after Jacob is abandoned by the dancing letters, he arrives at a half-finished adobe monastery hidden in the desert scrub. There, between the open roofed walls of library still under construction, Jacob talks to an Orthodox monk who advises him that there are bees many miles down range, hived within the monument marker at Trinity Site, where the Army lit the first plutonium bomb.
