Trinity
After this experience, Jacob walks overnight directly to Trinity Site, site of the first atomic test. The memorial marker is his goal. As he approaches the central part of the site, the beetv become active in him again, showing him images of himself through the mirror of time delay. Suddenly then the bee-tv shifts to memories of a long-ago voyage by sea to Basra, Mesopotamia. Jacob's anxiety builds as his point of view, now shifted outside of himself, phases back to the present and shows him in the literal shape of a bomb. Just as suddenly, his pov jumps back behind his own eyes. For a long lucid moment, he tries to call Melissa, taking advantage of a convenient pole-mounted phone near the Trinity Marker. However, the call doesn't go through, and the very act of touching the phone brings him back to another, perhaps even more authentic version of himself. His eyes stare at pebbles in his hand, but not for long.
