The puppeteer hands are ever busy, moving the audioanimatronic telephone patch cables to where the voices inside have paid them to go. Like signing hands near the mouth of a deaf person, these busy working fingers work to join ear and voice, translating the marks of invisible sound to their appropriate places, allowing for their machine-assisted (or at least electrical) transfer to distant, sympathetic ears and attached thinkers.
