Commentary:
The suggestion for making this revised study of the West Range with the Hotels and Dormitories facing away from the Lawn instead of towards the backs of the Pavilions came from Joseph C. Cabell at the Board of Visitors meeting of 29 March 1819. This information can be extrapolated from a letter Jefferson wrote to Gen. James Breckenridge on 8 July 1819. (JML)
