A multidisciplinary team sponsored by the Organization of American States
studied the rehabilitation and tourism opportunities of Cap Haitien, Haiti.
As the historic French provential capital, the city is rich in historic
architecture and sublime, monumental constructions like Sans Souci and the
grand hilltop citadel. The team, led by historian T. Allan Comp, consisted
of a marketing analyst, a publicist, two historic architecture specialists,
and two landscape architects. The team produced a set of recommendations
for increasing tourism and the physical means necessary for its success.
The team also identified the need for major sewage and drainage infrastructure
improvement within the city--that there would be notourism until the sewage
problem was solved. Kathy Poole speculated on ways sewage treatment and
improvement could also provide desparately needed public landscapes. |
