This conceptual project speculates on how a landscape can be as much of a performance space as the cultural institutions that are part of it. The plaza is conceived of as a stage complete with runway and proscenium. Drivers enter the landscape around a fountain court and drive down into the garage below the performing arts center. Drivers emerge from the garage within a fountain and pool that are designed to be active participants and a stage for childlike play in summer and medium for ‘naturally forming’ sculpture in winter. People saunter through the landscape to the long thin art gallery that is nestled within the interior of the space and within the horizontal canopies of the cherry trees. The gallery is placed at this upper level to correspond to the metro rail line at southern frontage of the plaza.
