At the intersection of the Charlesbank
and Commonwealth Avenue, the bridge has been redesigned to reestablish
the east-west connection of Commonwealth Ave. as a boulevard parkway.
The reconfigured bridge is reconfigured to make the Muddy River waterway
a connecting body. It accomplishes this in part by making the space between
the bridge and water more open, allowing light to flow through and allowing
people to see through the bridge.
Water
floods the spaces underneath the Charlesgate overpass, providing a surface
that will reflect the sunlight to the undercarriage and illuminate the
shadowed and marginal spaces.
And
the trees have been spaced to let light into the space, using the water
to reflect the light up and brightening the space.
