In a small white church in Waterloo Village William Stafford gave a lecture from his book You Must Revise your Life. He talked about his morning run and the individuals he met there, real people and specters, and how they affected the sanity and clarity of his writing. Every morning he rose, disciplining his body to run the course, while his mind contemplated the revisions: the words on the page, the posture of the self, our path through the world.
