  1. Try vibration of an imperfect conductor in a good liquid conductor. Say carbon or animal tissue in mercury. Attach lead pencil p (Fig 5) to membrane having first attached the plumbago to the wire w. Then let the point p vibrate in mercury M. See Fig 5 next page.
