Circuit Connections, 1874
Bell's primary concern throughout these experiments was the fact that the pitch
of the transmitter varied with the length of the circuit and the number of
batteries in the line; he hoped the local circuits shown here would make the
transmitter's pitch independent of the length of the line. The devices shown
here include a rubber band attached to the armature on the receiver so as to
stop it from vibrating as soon as the transmitter stopped.
