Genesis 3.1


Hebrew: Now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild beasts that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say: You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?"

Greek: Now the serpent was the cleverest of all the wild beasts which were on the earth, which the Lord God had made, and the serpent said to the woman, "Did God say that you may not eat from any tree in the garden?"

Old Latin: Now the serpent was the most subtle of all the wild creatures which the Lord God had made on the earth. And the serpent said to the woman, "Why did God say, 'You shall not eat of every tree in paradise'?"

Vulgate: Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of thefield which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Peshitta: And the snake was wiser than all of the beasts of the field which the Lord God had made. And the snake said to the woman:. "Truly God said that you shall not eat from all the trees of the Garden?
