The day after my strange experience at the hive, a thought came to me in the middle of an explosion.

	The missile's exhaust is visible in fast flight as the camera pans and zooms to follow it across the landscape, where it impacts a tankoid to create smoke and flames. Smoke and flames drawn on paper, cut with scissors, and thrown in the air at the right cue by poorly paid processes lurking in invisible cloaks right there in the middle of this dramatic, but unreal, and so harmless scene. His Memory Returns:

At Frisch, Jacob is a programmer writing code for gunsite displays in the simulators. The next day, twiddling code, Jacob feels an explosion in his brain, and remembers a previous experience of disapearance at the hives, which seemed to have occured after hearing voices within the comb. He is so disturbed by the memory that he leaves work, heading home to spend the afternoon watching tv. Inevitably, though, Jacob ends up at his hives.
