Civic Framework Plan • Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia
next

The Bristol Civic Framework Plan began as a typical “landscape” plan. Upon studying the city, it became apparent that the issues and opportunitites extend well beyond vegetation or what is typically termed “open space.” The Framework Plan presented considers the sturcture of the city--the larger order, functions, spaces, and relationships of the city.

The Plan synthesizes initiatives, significant spaces, and ideas into a Civic Landscape that forms a connective tissue that connects the best parts of Bristol and allows those parts to add up to something greater than the individual parts could make on their own.

The Civic Landscape links Bristol’s existing opportunities into a singular network--a clear and ‘imagable’ landscape to revitalizes Bristol. It is a public landscape that demonstrates the shared ideals of Bristol, links disparate parts of the city, gives residents a cognitive map of their city, and establishes a clear ‘festival route’ along which to plan festivals and public events.
