Appendix D: Survey of the Southeast Corner

In the summer of 1996, members of the PFP performed a detailed survey of the southeast corner of the Macellum, encompassing Areas D and E, using laser theodolite equipment. Details of the surveying methods are described by Hanna [1996].

Such a survey provides much more accurate measurements than the quick photogrammetry methods used by the study, and the survey results were use to determine that the wall thickness at Areas D and E is 0.5 meters.

Figures D.1 and D.2 below show renderings of a computer model generated from the survey data. The data reveals that the grade difference between inside and outside at the southeast corner of the building is approximately 2.2 meters.
