Collage mappings Notational maps and collage maps attempt to capture the experiential characteristics of the landscape. They try to capture the history, the stuff of the landscape. For the experience of landscapes is different from mapping the landscape itself. The experience of landscape is "lived within," to use James Corner's phrase, that is landscapes have embedded within them psychological associations from other places and times, some of which are not tangible at all. These maps' marks, gestures, and washes are more open than conventional mapping techniques, intended to allow more impressionistic, more experiential, and more emotive references to be seen. |
