This detail is from an early iteration of the reflecting basin's connection
to the MFA. The terraced wetland garden step down from the museum plaza
to the edge of the water, channeling stormwater from surrounding streets
and the museum roof. The plants growing within it filter the sediments from
the water as it drops through the garden levels down into the river. Steps
and platforms allow people to meander within the masses of painterly wetland
plants, eventually reaching the open water of the basin edge.
