I
intend to redesign the southeastern edge of the Fens Park to integrate the
many forms of transportation that serve this area of Boston. As various
modes of transportation converge, places are created. These moments of convergence
become art spaces to be used by the community and the institutions around
the Fens Park. Often in park design automobiles and pedestrians are separated,
but cars (and the "T") are a vital part of this city and the way
that the Fens is used and valued by many. In my design, the act of making
emerges from the closed courtyards and sealed buildings that pepper the
area; it enters the public realm and is available to be observed by all
that use the park, by whatever mode of transportation. Making becomes an
act of sharing.
