The design studio worked on two central premises

that landscapes can be infrastructures--basic and essential components of the city

and

that just one landscape can change a city
.

The studio produced 9 designs that accomplish these objectives.
The studio participants were all third year graduate students at the University of Virginia. Some were landscape architecture students pursuing their first design degree. Some were architecture graduates now pursuing landscape architectural degrees. One was a landscape architectural graduate pursuing an advanced landscape degree.

This portion of the site gives an overview of the work. It characterizes the schemes according to three themes:

Landscapes as Infrastructure

Landscapes as Historical Bodies

Landscapes that Change Boston
