Rui-Ling Zhang Detailing |
The
first detail is about the people above the water. It is designed by a path
tracing the old conduit. The idea is to make the connection between people
and the water by heating the water underneath to the steam above ground.
The movable path, the path and steam served as the sign of the water underneath.
This path begins at the "T" and directly to gatehouse. The second detail is about the people interact with the water. At the gatehouse, people's experience from above the water changes to under the water. At this moment, not only use the body vertical movement to feel the water level change, but also people has change to touch the water by themselves. The third detail is about the people under the water. It is designed by a "tunnel" which takes the shape of the old conduit, and the top arch is changed to glass. This detail uses the water's clear physical character to create a concave lens, which serves as roof of the tunnel. The result is to create an ideal lighting for the sidewall of the tunnel and unreal image condition for the roof of the tunnel. The steel on both side of the wall can enlarge the cool feeling for people under the water. (The proceeding paragraph denotes my current thinking. The images following reflect a former idea.) The last detail is about the people near the water and raising up to overlook the water and the city. It is designed by a series of platforms and a "water tower", which is not a real one but an observe tower. Three axles set the path and the platforms, which face the Olmsted Bridge, gatehouse and memorial. The water tower is located in the overlapping center. |
