Jacob as Cain:

Secure in the thought that he is Cain, Jacob walks away from the hives, heading out to the desert, never to return. He leaves Melissa a message saying that he is off at a work project on the army base.

Jacob heads straight out towards the hazy Deseret Test Facility, whose buildings are hidden across the huge flat expanse of desert that begins almost at the front door of his house. Deseret is an Army missile testing facility, a place for practical targets. Settling down temporarily near base, Jacob lets Army work fill the day. However, Jacob can't concentrate on the work, as his preternaturally enhanced senses give him a clear vision of missiles flying through the air, out over the nearby desert. He knows that these flights have something to do with him. Beginning with short morning walks, Jacob prepares to leave his new trailerpark home for the open desert.
