Spongy Model
Wet
Lands are not monolithic or dichotymous surfaces. Rather they are exchanging
surfaces--a flexible gradient between water and earth. The surfaces of Carr's
Hill span this range in a mosaic ranging from spongy fields, semi-permeable
slopes, layered surfaces, and impermeable parking. The lands are layerings
of 4 materials. Spongy lands are made with gauze. Completely impermeable
surfaces are made with mylar. Compacted surfaces are made of plaster cloth,
which is very porous and flexible. When compacted the materials are quite
impermeable and hard, offering understandings of the unseen but vital processes
of the land. |
