The
Fens is at a pivotal moment in its evolution, with $43 million secured
to restore environmental quality to its central water body, the Muddy
River, through various means, including bank-to-bank dredging, sediment
island removal, phragmites removal, and bank stabilization. Plus,
Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, which is adjacent to the Fens at its
most central and ceremonious area, is undergoing a master plan study
(in partnership with Norman Foster Associates). The plan's consequences
are very likely to influence the development of the Fens.
Furthermore, the link between the Fens and the Muddy River portion
of the Emerald Necklace dubbed 'the Sears Property' will soon be 'restored'
to its original (visible) creek form after being covered with dirt
and asphalt for decades. In other words, the Fens' redesign and reconstruction
is a real project that is going to be executed within the next two
years. |
