Roads
and overpasses are restructured to open the urban environment to the Charles
and the sky. This is partly accomplished with a system of tunnels, with
entrances placed at varying distances from the shoreline, that take vehicular
traffic underwater, thereby, heightening the sense of movement from land
to water.
The 'spaghetti' of the overpasses is reconfigured
into a rich weaving of land and water. Drivers swing out over the water
and then dip down 'into' the water. After a few seconds, they emerge again
on the other side of the Charlesgate, effectively weaving between the
land and the water.
